Miami Masters 1000

The 31st edition of the Miami Open will be played at the Key Biscane, Florida, United States from 24th March to 4th April.

The Miami Open marks the end of the long winter hardcourt season before the tennis stars head of to Europe for the claycourt season.

The defending champions and world number ones are Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams.

The notable top 10 absentees from the ATP side are world.no 2 and 17 time Grand Slam Winner Roger Federer and U.S.Open Champion and world no.10 Marin Cilic. From the WTA side world no.4 and two time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is the only notable absentee.

Fatigue may play an important factor as this tournament started just within 48 hours of the conclusion of the previous event(Indian Wells Masters 1000) and the players will be tired having flown the entire breadth of America to make it to Miami(Indian Wells Masters is held in California).

Based on that "superman" Novak Djokovic should be tired but we all know that isn't going to happen. With the absence of Roger Federer in this tournament the fans at Miami will be expecting a mouthwatering clash between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic(the top two seeds) in the finals.
However wether Rafa's surgically repaired knees are able to hold up to the strain of hard court tennis remains to be seen. The absence of Roger Federer also opens up a spot in he semi finals which can be taken by rising stars like Kei Nishikori(world no.5 )  or Milos Raonic(world no.6 and the man who beat Nadal in the quarter finals at Indian Wells) Or will someone new emerge ?? Maybe Borna Corcic ?

The outcome of the event won't have any ramifications on the world no.1 ranking as Rafael Nadal(world no.3 and second seed is a distant 7000 ranking points behind Djokovic(maximum possible 1000 points on offer in the tournament) No smart person would bet against Djokovic claiming his 5th title at Miami as he is on red hot form and has only lost one match since the start of the Australian Open(Federer beat him in Dubai).

Most titles

Indian Wells Masters

Last sunday marked the conclusion of the 40th annual edition of the Indian Wells Masters for the ATP tour and the 27th edition for the WTA tour.

Significant Event : The significant event of the tournament was on the WTA side .
World no.1 Serena Williams made a return to the tournament ending her 14 year long hiatus . She went on a hiatus in this tournament in response to the racial slurs she  and her family received during the 2001 final.

Winners : Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in an almost 1 sided final(Federer was extremely lucky to take the second set in a tie break). With this win Novak Djokovic joint an elite club of players to have won 50 ATP titles and also with the win won his 4th title in the California desert(previous triumphs in 2008 2011 2014) tying for most titles at this tournament with Roger Federer.
Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer 6-3 6-7 6-2

The women's champion was rising star Simona Halep who beat surprise finalist and former worldno.1 Jelena Jankovic.
Simona Halep bt Jelena Jankovic 2-6 7-5 6-4

Ranking: The only shuffle in the top 10 rankings was Stan Wawrinka losing a spot and sliding down to no.8 . Novak Djokovic with his win consolidated his spot at the top . A loss would've seen his spot under threat from Roger Federer during the claycourt season.

Surprise Performer: No major surprises unless one looks at the semi final lineup where Canadian Milos Raonic occupied Rafael Nadal's slot.

Next Event : Miami Masters 1000

Introduction

Hi everyone! Basically as the page suggests this blog is about tennis and since this is my first post I find it prudent that I should enlighten readers about myself. I am a resident of Mumbai, India and am an argent fan of Roger Federer. In our city we are blessed to have access to over a dozen sports channels so people can keep up with all the events live. I have followed the game closely ever since the 2006 French Open and have even played the game myself for two years, so I have a basic idea of the types of shots and how they can be played from a particular angle of the court and also on how the element of wind significantly affects the movement of the ball.
This blog will mainly focus on tournament reports mostly from the ATP circuit and the WTA premier mandatory's which are played simultaneously along with the ATP events and the four Grand Slams and also The Tour Finals. Also featured on this blog will be tournament predictions and random articles focusing on specific players.
